Baltimore County police say a man fatally shot his adult son on Father's Day.

It happened around 5 p.m. Sunday at the father's home in the 9700 block of Harford Road in the Carney area.

Police spokesman Cpl. Mike Hill says the son, who is from out-of-state, had been staying with his father for a few weeks and an altercation earlier in the day led to the shooting.

Hill says officers found the father inside his home with a shotgun and he was taken to police headquarters for questioning. He says the son was taken to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, where he died about an hour later.

Hill says police are not releasing the men's names, pending notification of next of kin.
