D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier (web|news|bio) has hired the former head of Metro's transit police as her special assistant.
Polly Hanson, the first woman to serve as chief of Metro Transit Police, began working for Lanier on Monday. She will be overseeing policy issues for the department and will be paid $150,000 annually.
Hanson became chief of Metro's police department in July 2002. She was promoted in April 2007 to the new position of Metro's safety and security chief, in which she oversaw police, safety and emergency management.
