(Sports Network) - Days before Jeff Carter was set to become a restricted free agent, the center agreed to a new, multi-year contract with the Philadelphia Flyers, general manager Paul Holmgren announced Friday. Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed. TSN Canada is reporting that it is a three-year deal worth $15 million.

"Jeff is a terrific young player who has come up through our organization and we believe that he is only going to get better," said Holmgren. "It is a priority for us to keep our core of young players intact and signing Jeff allows us to do that."

ABC 7 News myTAKE - What's Your Opinion? Carter played in 82 games last season, notching 29 goals and 24 assists, all career-highs. The 23-year-old added six goals and 11 points in the postseason and helped Philadelphia reach the Eastern Conference finals for the first time since 2004.

"I'm very excited to be staying in Philadelphia," said Carter. "We have great group of guys on this team and I can't wait to get back on the ice and continue where we left off last season."

The Flyers selected the London, Ontario native with the 11th overall pick in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, and he has 66 goals and 132 points in 225 career games.
