WARDENSVILLE, W Va. - Police in Frederick County, Va., say a suspect wanted in connection with the murder of his brother and disappearance of his ex-girlfriend was arrested Saturday in West Virginia.
Justin Shane Slater, 21, was spotted by a convenience store clerk in Wardensville, W. Va., who then called authorities. A lookout was issued for the black 4-door vehicle he was driving, and around 1:15 p.m., Hardy County Deputy David Warren spotted the suspect and pulled him over on northbound Trout Run Road. He surrendered with no resistance, police say. The vehicle Slater was driving had been stolen, police say.
Several miles south, authorities searched a home on Timberline Drive where Slater had been spotted at earlier in the day and found a female body believed to be that of his missing ex-girlfriend, 22-year-old Kayleigh Marie Plamondon. Identification of the body is pending an autopsy.
Slater is currently being held in Potomac Highland Regional Jail on a fugitive warrant and will go before a judge in about 10 days, police say.
The mother of Kayleigh Marie Plamondon publicly pleaded for help finding her daughter Friday.
"We miss Kayleigh. We love Kayleigh. We want Kayleigh to be found," said Debbie Plamondon, pleading for 21-year-old Justin Shane Slater, who is wanted on a murder warrant, to contact her. "I really need to hear from you now, because if I can go to Kayleigh, that will be my next step," she said. "My next step is to find her and make sure that she's safe and that I can help her."
Kayleigh Plamondon was last seen Wednesday afternoon. Investigators searching the farm where she was house sitting came across disturbing signs.
"There was significant evidence to believe that there was a violent confrontation at the house that she was sitting at," said Investigator Trisha Putnam with the Clarke County Sheriff's Office.
The body of Slater's brother, Gregory Scott Slater Jr., 28, was found early Thursday morning. He had been shot to death, police said. Justin is wanted on a first-degree murder warrant in connection with the shooting.
