(Sports Network) - Olympic gold medalist Elena Dementieva highlighted Monday's opening-round winners at the $600,00 Aegon International tennis event, a final grass-court Wimbledon tune-up.
The top-seeded Dementieva blew past fellow Russian Maria Kirilenko 6-2, 6-2 at Devonshire Park. Dementieva's second-round opponent will be France's Virginie Razzano.
Another seeded Russian reached the second round, as No. 7 Nadia Petrova handled former world No. 1 Ana Ivanovic 6-1, 4-6, 6-4. Petrova was last year's runner-up here to Poland's Agnieszka Radwanska, this week's eighth seed.
Additionally, Chinese Zheng Jie zipped past Spaniard Carla Suarez Navarro 6-2, 6-2, Razzano topped fellow Frenchwoman Alize Cornet 7-6 (7-3), 6-2 and Aussie Samantha Stosur whipped German Sabine Lisicki 6-2, 6-1.
This week's Eastbourne field also features French Open champion Svetlana Kuznetsova, U.S. Open runner-up Jelena Jankovic, Vera Zvonareva and rising stars Victoria Azarenka and Caroline Wozniacki.
The 2009 Eastbourne champ will collect $98,500.
