GAITHERSBURG, Md. - He's used to lending his voice to University of Maryland games but now Johnny Holiday is using his voice for a greater cause.
Holiday's 10-year-old grandson has cancer and Wednesday night, the sports announcer and many others are getting haircuts to help the boy's fight.
For most people getting a haircut is pretty basic. "The last time I had a buzz cut was probably my senior year of high school," said Holiday. "In support of Jack, his brothers, his father, his relatives, his aunts, his uncles, his classmates all decided to get their haircut short like his is."
Holiday's grandson Jack has been diagnosed with a malignant tumor in his pituitary gland. Because of its location the tumor can't be removed, forcing Jack to undergo Chemo Therapy.
"You never think it's going to hit you and then when it does it's like a ton of bricks," said Holiday.
"We have good days and bad and we just try to live the good days as best as we can so he can do things that other 10-year-old boys do," said Tracy Rolle, Jack's mother.
Holiday is now inviting friends and complete strangers to step up in an effort to raise money for Jack's medical expenses.
The Gaithersburg barbershop is offering $15 buzz cut haircuts Wednesday night only to the public. All proceeds will go to brain cancer research.
