(Sports Network) - The Toronto Blue Jays made it official on Thursday and placed pitchers Roy Halladay and Scott Downs on the 15-day disabled list, also recalling pitcher Jeremy Accardo.
Halladay missed his scheduled start Wednesday against Philadelphia because of a strained right groin suffered during a June 12 outing against Florida. He tried to throw a bullpen session on Wednesday and still experienced discomfort, leading to the stint on the DL.
The 32-year-old veteran right-hander has a record of 10-1 with a 2.53 earned run average in 14 starts this season. He leads the majors in victories and had pitched at least seven innings in each of his first 13 starts this season before only going three against the Marlins.
Downs has a sprained left big toe and last pitched on Tuesday against the Phillies, when he picked up the win in an 8-3, 10-inning victory. The lefty was hurt while running out a grounder in the top of the 10th inning of that contest.
In 26 games this season, Downs has a mark of 1-0 with eight saves and a 1.98 ERA. He has become the club's closer and is 8-for-9 in save situations.
Accardo had spent the entire 2009 season at Triple-A Las Vegas, where he was 2-1 with nine saves and 3.38 ERA. The right-hander appeared in just 16 games last season for the Blue Jays before a forearm injury ended his season.
