(Sports Network) - D.C. United opened a streak of five of six MLS road games Wednesday with a two-goal rally in a 3-3 tie against the Seattle Sounders FC, and continues a busy week Saturday night at the Colorado Rapids.
United, which also visits the defending MLS Cup champion Columbus Crew and the Houston Dynamo over its next six matches, has lost just once in its last 11 and leads the Eastern Conference.
D.C. (5-2-8) is unbeaten at RFK Stadium in eight matches and 1-2-4 on the road. United can take control of the East over the next five weeks, starting with its trip to Dick's Sporting Goods Park this weekend.
United coach Tom Soehn was a little disappointed with the team's overall play on the road at Qwest Field against Seattle, but pleased with the result.
"Overall I was a little disappointed in some of the performances on our side," Soehn said. "We gave them a lot opportunities and in environment like this you can't afford to do that.
"Again the group was resilient and the guys who came in impacted in a big way. We fought back to get a point on the road."
Rookie Chris Pontius scored United's first goal and after falling behind by two goals, former MVP Christian Gomez scored and a Tyrone Marshall own goal in the 87th tied the match at 3.
D.C. has done well on the road, totaling 13 goals, but Colorado is one of just four teams - including United - that are unbeaten at home this season.
Colorado (4-2-5) has two wins and two draws at home, and is undefeated in its last six. The Rapids were off last week following a 1-1 draw at Real Salt Lake, and will play without eight-goal scorer Conor Casey again.
Casey was leading MLS with eight goals when he was called up to the U.S. and is in South Africa for the Confederations Cup. Unless the U.S. advances, he should be available in Colorado's next match at Seattle on June 28.
Rapids coach Gary Smith was pleased with the team's effort against RSL and with his side sitting fourth in the Western Conference entering this weekend's game, hopes the team can continue its winning streak.
"A couple of the boys picked a big time to step up to the plate and realized it was on their shoulders today," Smith said.
