(Sports Network) - Canadian Jean Pascal defeated compatriot Adrian Diaconu in a unanimous decision Friday night at the Bell Centre to capture the WBC light heavyweight title.
Pascal (23-1, 15 KOs) was declared the winner after the judges scored the bout 115-112, 116-112 and 116-111. He also secured the match's only knockdown, putting Diaconu on the mat in the fifth round.
The 26-year-old Pascal moved up from super-middleweight to fight in the light heavyweight class and proved to be too much for his opponent, providing more speed and agility than Diaconu.
