(Sports Network) - Sixth-seeded Dane Caroline Wozniacki overcame a tough challenge from unseeded Frenchwoman Virginie Razzano in Saturday's final at the $600,000 Aegon International tennis event, a final grass-court Wimbledon tune-up.
Wozniacki, who reached her fifth final of the year, earned a 7-6 (7-5), 7-5 decision to win the fifth title of her burgeoning career and pocket $98,500. The 18-year-old titled in Florida and finished runner-up in Memphis, Charleston and Madrid this season.
"I'm really pleased to have won my fifth Sony Ericsson WTA Tour title," Wozniacki said. "It's my first title on grass so that means a lot to me. I've beaten some great players, some great grass court players. This tournament had a very strong field. I just want to celebrate - I'm not thinking about Wimbledon yet!"
Wozniacki is now 3-0 lifetime against the 26-year-old Razzano, with the previous victories coming back in April.
Razzano advanced to her sixth career final after fellow Frenchwoman Marion Bartoli retired with a right quad strain while trailing 6-4, 1-0 in Friday's semifinal.
"It was a great, tough final," said Razzano. "It was not easy for me to lose in two sets, but they were close. I played a very good final against Caroline. I'm happy with my matches against (Elena) Dementieva and (Agnieszka) Radwanska though. Today, I just wasn't as fresh as I was before."
