(Sports Network) - Donald Fehr is set to announce his retirement as executive director of the Major League Baseball Players Association, according to a report in the New York Times on Monday.
The paper, which cites a source close to the situation, indicates that Michael Weiner, the union's general counsel, is expected to take over when Fehr makes his announcement official later Monday.
Fehr joined the MLBPA's general counsel in 1977, where he stayed until the players named him executive director in 1986.
