FALLS CHURCH, Va. - Michael Jackson's death is bringing about a new interest in his memorabilia, as prices for vintage albums and other items are skyrocketing.
Some local fans are asking for up to 80 times as much as what they paid for the memorabilia and in some cases, they are getting just that.
It was her first Michael Jackson album and it was a good one. "On my little record player in my little room, I used to dance with it," said Falls Church resident Erika Aquino. "I knew all the words then!"
While the album does hold some sentimental value for Aquino, she has decided to sell it on Craigslist for $800. "It is a real collectible so I think it's worth every penny," she said.
Thirty miles west in Ashburn, Jodi Tiedge has the same idea. "I took it and ran upstairs and showed my husband and said look look! I can't believe I have this," she said.
Tiedge has asked for the same price on Craigslist and says she already received a bid for $900. "A few finger prints, that's it," she said.
It's a story playing out across the country from New York to Los Angeles to small town Virginia where Jackson memorabilia including tickets, photographs, clothing, coke cans and even the June 26 edition of the
Washington Times announcing the King of Pop had died, is selling fast.
"I don't really have any sentimental value. I'm not a collector and I thought shoot -- $800, $900 comes in handy!"
It seems the man and his music are priceless -- or at least very expensive.
