Funny-Tasting, But Safe to Drink

Local water officials say they are taking steps to address numerous complaints about funny-tasting water.
The Washington Aqueduct, the organization responsible for the water supply in D.C., Arlington, and Falls Church, says testing shows the water is safe to drink.
Thomas P. Jacobus, General Manager of the Washington Aqueduct, believes the changes in taste and odor can be attributed to the low river levels and the high water temperature of the Potomac River, from which local drinking water is drawn. The aqueduct says it began powder-activated carbon treatment of the drinking water Monday to improve taste.
According to a statement, the treatment is similar to a charcoal filter. It is designed to absorb odors that may be present.
