Alexandria officials have posted signs warning residents about a rabid bat that was found recently in the city.
The Virginia Health Department says three boys found the dead bat last Wednesday in a wooded area. One boy brought it home to show his mother, who threw it away.
Eventually, the bat was sent to Richmond where it tested positive for rabies.

The three boys have been contacted and will undergo rabies shots as a precaution.
