D.C. Fire Department emergency medical personnel responded to the scene but found no signs consistent with life. He was taken to the D.C. Medical Examiner's office and pronounced dead.

Witnesses say there may have been an argument before the victim was stabbed.

The case is under investigation by members of the department's Violent Crimes Branch.

The attacks both happened while District Police were under an "All Hands On Deck" weekend, requiring all officers to work eight-hour shifts in an effort to crack down on crime.Last Thursday, police sent hundreds of recruits, supervised by several police officers, to the LeDroit Park neighborhood in a show of force. The area around the 4th and T Streets has been the scene of several daytime robberies, recently.

Chief Lanier says the Department's Summer Crime Initiative is having an impact.

"Increased police visibility has helped our communities feel safe," she said in a statement. "I've heard nothing but positive feedback from residents who welcome more police in their neighborhoods. We will have additional officers on patrol in cars, on foot, on bikes and on Segways as part of my continuing effort to be proactive about fighting crime, rather than waiting for crime to happen."

Police report that during the during the last "All Hands on Deck" weekend, over 650 arrests were made, including the closure of four homicide cases.

Police say the department is giving officers time off during the week to avoid paying overtime on the weekend.

The first "All Hands on Deck" on June 8th and 9th cost approximately $1.2 million.
