Soft-Soled Shoes Increasingly Getting Stuck in Escalators

Metro officials are warning riders who wear a certain kind of footwear of the dangers when those shoes meet the escalator's teeth.
Soft-soled shoes like Crocs, flip-flops and sandals are increasingly causing problems when they meet the top or bottom step of the escalator and get stuck in the metal.
Metro officials say 25 objects got stuck in escalators last month, and most of them were "shoe entrapments."
David Lacosse oversees Metro's 588 escalators and 244 elevators. He says the problems started last summer, when there were no incidents for a few weeks, but now it's common to have three to four a week.
Officials say injuries have been minor because people can pull their feet away from the trapped shoes.
But the soft soles can get ripped and tangled, and foot injuries have been reported in other states.
Metro's general manager is considering putting up safety notices.
