Area Residents Have Complex Views on Illegal Immigrants
posted 6:43 am Mon July 30, 2007 - Fairfax, VA
Researchers at George Mason University say Virginia residents have complex views when it comes to illegal immigration. Many people who say they'd support allowing illegal immigrants to win legal status also believe police should check immigration status during traffic stops.

That's according to a recent GMU survey.

ABC 7 News myTAKE - What's Your Opinion? The survey found that blacks and Asians are more likely to support curbs on illegal immigration.

It found that counties with more foreign-born residents are much more supportive of illegal immigrants than those with smaller populations.

The survey comes as Prince William County and Loudoun County are studying ways to deny some government services to illegal immigrants.

You will always get a comment out of me on the immigration issue!

I agree with so many of the comments that I have read, I want to stop the influx of all illegal immigration for several reasons – and I don’t like being branded as a bigot for it. I can understand political reasons, wanting a “better” quality of life – BUT - We have kids in DC that don’t have text books for the coming school year.– I want to make sure “our” kids come first! We need to take care of home first – If there are going to be social services and programs – I want them to go for places in high crime areas or perhaps open more “after” school programs for hard working American parents…. That work one/two jobs to support their families.

I am proud to be an American, but that does not mean I have to be a door matt, or be forced to take on other countries issues. – Good Lord!

It is not that I don’t care about the people that come here illegally; In all honesty - I probably would sneak in too, if I was not fortunate enough to be born here.

We can work something out with the illegal immigration, I don’t know what that to be – but stopping it would be the first thing! coming school year.– I want to make sure “our” kids come first!
