(Sports Network) - The Ottawa Senators signed journeyman netminder Alex Auld to a two-year contract, the team announced Tuesday. Auld has played in parts of six seasons with Vancouver, Florida, Phoenix and Boston. The 27-year-old split time, appearing in 32 contests, with both Phoenix and Boston last season, posting a 12-13-5 mark with a 2.32 goals against average.

Ottawa filled the void for a backup to entrenched starter Martin Gerber after the club bought out Ray Emrey's contract late last month.

ABC 7 News myTAKE - What's Your Opinion? Ottawa general manager Bryan Murray drafted Auld while with Florida in 1999, taking the Thunder Bay, Ontario, native in the second round. In 140 career games, Auld has a 58-57-16 mark with two ties and a 2.85 GAA.
