(Sports Network) - Real Salt Lake announced Wednesday it has waived Argentine midfielder Matias Cordoba, who was on loan from Argentina side Club Atletico Tigre. If Cordoba clears waivers, the loan agreement between Major League Soccer and Club Atletico Tigre would be terminated.

"Anytime a player leaves his home country to come to the United States and play for Real Salt Lake we have to respect his courage in accepting the challenge of playing in a foreign environment," Real General Manager Garth Lagerway said.

ABC 7 News myTAKE - What's Your Opinion? "As in the rest of the natural world, sometimes adapting proves difficult."

The 23-year-old Cordoba joined Real Salt Lake on loan from Club Atletico Tigre in February. Cordoba served primarily off of the bench during his stint with Real Salt Lake, making two starts in seven appearances for the first team while totaling 173 minutes of action.

Cordoba was an integral component to Reals MLS Reserve Division side, scoring five goals and adding three assists in just four matches. Cordoba had expressed interest in returning home to continue his playing career in Argentina.

With the transaction, Real Salt Lake has two spots open on its 18-man Senior roster, both of which could be filled with international players heading into the summer MLS transfer window that opens on July 15.
