Chivas Hopes For Better Performance Against S.j.

(Sports Network) - Chivas USA coach Preki wasn't very pleased after last week's 1-1 tie against Red Bull New York.

"I don't think we created enough opportunities here tonight to give ourselves a real good chance of winning this game," Preki said after the game.
Enough opportunities? He wasn't kidding.

Chivas created exactly zero chances in the game, taking advantage of a horrible mistake by New York's defense to score its only goal just before halftime.
So even though Preki was "very disappointed with the result," Chivas can just be thankful it escaped with a point.
Chivas improved to 4-2-1 in its last seven games - with three of those wins at The Home Depot Center - and will try to build on its recent success against the San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday in the fourth of five straight home games.
Although Chivas was lucky to score last week, Preki has to hope the goal will spark veteran striker Ante Razov. He scored the lone goal last week by grabbing an errant pass to score his first goal since April 26.
With Maykel Galindo, who led the team with 12 goals last year, out injured, the Goats need Razov to produce.
With Chivas' defense settling in after a horrible start this year, the club is in position to continue its climb back to the top of the Western Conference. It won the regular-season title last year and is just another win or two away from climbing back into first.
Since allowing 13 goals in its first five games, Chivas and U.S. national team goalie Brad Guzan have allowed just six in his last eight matches. Guzan missed the 1-0 loss to Real Salt Lake on June 14 because of national team duty.
The task this week is to add to San Jose's struggles. The expansion team is on a season-high four-game winless streak after a 0-0 tie against the Chicago Fire last week.
Despite the woes, San Jose coach Frank Yallop was pleased with the performance last week at Chicago.
"To come here and play like we did, it's terrific. I think we deserved at least a point, if not the win," Yallop said. "For the guys, they've worked so hard and actually played really well and not scored. And that's been our story this year."
And with just three wins and three draws in 14 matches, San Jose has the worst record in Major League Soccer. The Earthquakes also have the fewest goals this season with 10.
"Our record indicates that we have not been as consistent as we need to be this year. We have not been finishing our chances, but we need to keep working at that and it will come," San Jose goalie Joe Cannon said.
