The color scheme of a gas station is at the center of a fight in Woodbridge and fixing the problem could cost the owner tens of thousands of dollars.
The new owners of the gas station on Old Bridge Road spent $32,000 on new signs and a striped color theme, but the county is ordering the colors be replaced with white paint.
"This is eye catching, not an eye sore," said one customer. "You drivin' out here at night and you'll be able to see the red, white and yellow." Another customer said, "You see the colors everywhere. They have them at McDonald's, they have them at Burger King, Hardees."
Fast Fuels customers don't understand why a local civic association is fuming. "This is not a radical color scheme," owner Travis Booth said. Booth claims he obtained all the proper permits for the color scheme. "I thought we had done something very nice for the area."
Days after the grand opening in June, the new owner received a letter from the county saying the permit approvals were a mistake. "Obviously we spent a lot of time, effort, money to try and get the site up and running and looking as nice as it possibly can," Booth said.
No one complained about a Shell gas station across the street with nearly the same colors. It was built before the ordinance was put into effect. The new owners of the Fast Fuels station may take their case to the county circuit court.
