Prince George's County Fire Chief Lawrence Sedgwick says the death of a volunteer firefighter in 2007 has been ruled a line-of-duty death.
Sedgwick said George Linnell's death in April of 2007 was ruled in the line of duty because he died from a lung disease that can be caused by inhalation of certain toxins.
According to Sedgwick, interstitial pulmonary fibrosis could have been influenced by Linnell's activities while he served with the Landover Hills Fire/EMS Department.
Linnell joined the fire department as a volunteer in March 1983 and was promoted several times and served on the department's board of trustees.
His name will be inscribed on a fallen firefighters' memorial in Landover Hills.
