Authorities say a fire damaged seven homes in Manor Park in northwest Washington.
D.C. fire department spokesman Alan Etter says authorities were called shortly before 3 p.m. Friday to Longfellow Street, where four houses were heavily damaged by the blaze. Heat from the fire caused less severe damage to three houses across an alley.
Crews worked in 90-degree heat to extinguish the flames. Etter says one firefighter had minor injuries when he fell through a roof.
Officials are investigating the cause of the fire. Etter says damage is likely to total hundreds of thousands of dollars.
