A power outage caused major disruptions on Metro's orange line Monday; by the time trains started running Tuesday morning, full service was restored and the orange line was operating normally.
The Virginia Dominion power outage has taken out Dunn Loring rail station's escalators and elevators, but a generator was brought in to power both. Metro advised customers on affected trains to either wait for the next train to continue on to Vienna or take a shuttle bus.
Metro officials said two electrical feeder failures, one Friday near the Vienna station and another on Monday near the West Falls Church stations are the culprits. Power officials said Metro or the heat is not to blame, rather saying underground equipment simply failed.
Hundreds of passengers were delayed in the late-afternoon heat. It's forcing Jim Goldweber to rethink how he commutes. "I'm planning to go back to car pooling. Really. I'm getting fed up with this."
Many passengers had to get off trains and wait for another one to come, all while waiting on a hot platform. "You have to wait for two trains to go past to get on the train and it's frustrating. We pay a lot for transportation."
Damien Cabrera can't believe his bad luck. His frustration level is at a boil. "It's just aggravating."
