The District's interim attorney general, Peter Nickles, is standing by the appointment of psychologist Roque Gerald as interim head of the city's Child and Family Services agency.
Nickles says Gerald's record has been unblemished since 1989, when Gerald had sex with a suicidal and depressed woman he was counseling.
The woman later sued Gerald. Her attorney, William Burnside, said Sunday that Gerald's employer settled the case for a confidential amount.
Nickles says Gerald volunteered information about the case during the vetting process. The revelation about Gerald's history was first made public Friday by the newspaper Youth Today.
