Montgomery County (web|news) is creating a task force to help coordinate programs aimed at reducing the county's carbon footprint.

County Executive Isiah Leggett this week nominated 26 people to the panel. The list includes environmental officials as well as representatives of Montgomery County's planning department, the public schools, Montgomery College and the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission.

Leggett says he wants the county to be a leader on the issue.

Nominations require the County Council's approval. The panel is expected to begin work in September.
