A 66-year-old woman was found dead inside a Leesburg home, leading police to search for the killer and her stolen car.
On July 24 around 5:00 p.m., Leesburg Police officers were dispatched to a home on the 200 block of Golden Larch Terrace. Officers found Hanh Hoang dead in an upstairs bedroom.
The police tape in the area was disconcerting enough for neighbors, but then a platoon of recruits searched the grounds around the usually quiet loop of townhouses, looking for clues in the murder. "I'm thinking, wow. While a lot of people are sleeping peacefully, somebody['s]... life is getting taken away," said neighbor Brian Folkes.
If police know how and why Hoang was murdered, they aren't releasing details. A relative found the body, it's believed, a day after the murder happened. "Apparently there were thunderstorm that came through that night, but we slept through them, so we didn't hear anything," said neighbor Erin Rojas.
Neighbors say Hoang and possibly her daughter moved into the home about a month before the murder happened. "We never got a chance to introduce ourselves," said Rojas.
Police are looking for a car reported stolen from the home. The vehicle is a 2005 blue Honda Accord, 4 door, with Virginia registration KFL-3707.
Despite a lack of information being released by police, they do say neighbors should not be worried. "We do not believe this is a random event. We do believe... the neighborhood is safe," said Lt. Jeff Dube.
Leesburg Police Department is asking that anyone who has information about this incident to call (703) 771-4500 or (703) 443-TIPS.
