Detectives from the Montgomery County (web|news) Police Major Crimes Division, Robbery Section, are investigating an attempted carjacking that occurred in the parking lot of the White Flint Mall in Kensington on Tuesday, July 29.

Around 11:46 a.m., officers from the 2nd District responded to White Flint Mall at 11119 Rockville Pike in Kensington, responding to a report of an attempted strong-arm carjacking. The victim, a 78-year-old male from College Park, was confronted by a lone male who demanded his car keys as he locked his car. The victim refused, at which point the suspect hit the victim with his elbow and knocked him to the ground.

The suspect took the victim's keys and got into the car, but was apparently unable to get the car started. Giving up on the car, the suspect then fled on foot. The victim suffered minor injuries when he was knocked to the ground; he was treated at the scene by Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service and released.

The suspect is described as a white male, 20 to 25 years-of-age, 5'9" tall, weighing 160 pounds, and wearing a green polo shirt.

Anyone who has information about this incident and/or suspect is asked to call the Major Crimes Division, Robbery Section, at 240 -773 -5100 or call the Montgomery County Police non-emergency number at 301-279-8000.
