(Sports Network) - Aaron Peirsol eclipsed the world record in winning the 200-meter backstroke Saturday night at the USA Swimming Championships.
Peirsol, the reigning Olympic silver medalist, finished the race in 1 minute, 53.08 seconds to shave nearly a second off Ryan Lochte's (1:53.94) mark he set in Beijing last summer.
Lochte came in second place Saturday, 1.13 seconds off the pace, while Tyler Clary was third.
It was the second world record set by Peirsol this week. He reclaimed the world record in the 100-meter backstroke Wednesday.
Eric Shanteau, who has overcome testicular cancer in the last year, won the 200-meter breaststroke final in a time of 2:08.01, bettering his own American record.
Jackson Wilcox won the men's 1500-meter freestyle in a time of 15:11.98.
There were three individual women's finals Saturday, the last day of competition. Dana Vollmer won the 100-meter freestyle in 54 seconds, Chloe Sutton won the 800-meter freestyle in 8:29.34, and Rebecca Soni was victorious in the 200-meter breaststroke in 2:20.38.
