(Sports Network) - Three-time world champion Miguel Cotto will take on pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao in a blockbuster fight set for November 14 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Promoter Bob Arum disclosed the bout Monday and said further details will be announced soon, and that his organization, Top Rank, is working on a major media tour to start right after Labor Day.
The 28-year-old Cotto (34-1, 27 KOs), a native of Puerto Rico, has held a world title every year since 2004. He held the WBO junior welterweight crown from 2004-2006, successfully defending it six times before vacating it to capture the WBA welterweight belt at the end of 2006. Cotto then captured his second welterweight crown this past February with a fifth-round technical knockout of Michael Jennings. Cotto defended the belt with a split decision win over Joshua Clottey last month at Madison Square Garden.
The 30-year-old Pacquiao (49-3-2, 37 KOs), from the Philippines, has won six world titles in as many different weight divisions ranging from 112 to 140 pounds. He's coming off a second-round demolishment of Ricky Hatton in May. He's also finished off Oscar De La Hoya, David Diaz and Juan Manuel Marquez and hasn't lost a bout since March 2005 when Erik Morales scored a 12-round unanimous decision in a fight for the vacant WBC international super featherweight title.
