(Sports Network) - Ron Hornaday, Jr. became the first driver in the 15-year history of the Camping World Truck Series to win four races in a row after holding off Mike Skinner in a fierce battle to the finish in Friday's AAA Insurance 200 at O'Reilly Raceway Park.
Hornaday grabbed the lead from Todd Bodine with 32 laps to go. Several laps later, Bodine hit the wall after Colin Braun made contact with him while the two were battling for the second position.
Ricky Carmichael later hit the wall to set up a 10-lap shootout to the finish. Hornaday pulled away from Braun, but Mike Skinner charged through the field to take second from Braun. Skinner was among several drivers who pitted for new tires during a late-race caution. Hornaday remained on the track.
Skinner made several attempts in the closing laps to maneuver around Hornaday but could not get past the three-time Truck Series champion, as Hornaday beat him to the finish line by 0.202 seconds for his record fourth straight win.
"Four in a row, man that's cool," Hornaday said. "Three has been done, but to do this says a lot."
Hornaday, who won his championships in 1996, '98 and 2007, respectively, also extended his series record to 44 career victories. He has posted five victories this year.
"We didn't have the best truck, but I really wanted that fourth one so bad," he added.
Hornaday's crew chief, Rick Ren, tied a record as well. Ren recorded his 26th win as a crew chief, matching long-time series crew chief Dennis Conner's record.
"My guys just don't give up, but the guy who drives (our truck) doesn't lay down for a moment," Ren said.
Conner guided Jack Sprague to three truck championships (1997, '99 and 2001).
With the victory, Hornaday increased his points lead to 174 over new second- place holder Skinner.
"I don't like to finish second any more than any one else does, but it was a good points night," Skinner said.
Aric Almirola and Dennis Setzer, who also took on new tires late in the race, finished third and fourth, respectively, while Braun completed the top-five.
James Buescher finished sixth, followed by Tayler Malsam, Stacy Compton, David Starr and Kyle Busch, who led during the mid-stages but experienced tire problems that put him out of contention to win.
Bodine ended up finishing 18th.
