(Sports Network) - The Philadelphia Phillies have reportedly reached an agreement with the Indians to acquire pitcher Cliff Lee, last season's American League Cy Young Award winner.
According to multiple media outlets, the Phillies would get Lee and outfielder Ben Francisco and send a package of minor league prospects to Cleveland. In that group are pitchers Jason Knapp and Carlos Carrasco, shortstop Jason Donald and catcher Lou Marson. Carrasco, Donald and Marson are all at the Triple-A level, while Knapp is at Single-A.
The reports say the deal is pending review of medical records. The Phillies had also been said to be in talks with Toronto about ace pitcher Roy Halladay, but in Lee get a reigning Cy Young winner.
Lee, 30, won the award last season after going 22-3 with a 2.54 earned run average in 31 starts, with 170 strikeouts and 34 walks in 223 1/3 innings.
This season in 22 starts, the left-hander has gone 7-9, but with a 3.14 ERA.
Over 182 career games (178 starts) since breaking into the majors with Cleveland in 2002, Lee has posted an 83-48 record with a 4.01 ERA.
Francisco, 27, has batted .250 with a .336 on-base percentage, 10 homers, 33 runs batted in and 13 stolen bases in 89 games for Cleveland this year. In 235 games over three major league seasons, all with the Indians, he has a .261 average, .332 on-base percentage, 28 homers and 99 RBI.
The players being sent to Cleveland were among the top prospects in the Phillies' system.
Marson has some MLB experience, having made his debut in 2008. In eight contests, he went 6-for-21 with one homer and three walks for the Phillies. At Triple-A Lehigh Valley this season, the 23-year-old was hitting .294 with a .382 on-base percentage, one homer and 24 RBI.
The right-handed Carrasco, 22, has made 20 starts for Lehigh Valley and gone 6-9 with a 5.18 ERA, 112 strikeouts and 38 walks in 114 2/3 innings.
Donald, 24, has spent most of this season at Triple-A and hit .236 with a .297 OBP and 16 RBI in 51 games.
Knapp, a right-hander, was selected in the second round of the 2008 draft.
