SILVER SPRING, Md. - Passengers were stuck on a train near the Silver Spring Metro station for nearly three hours after a power line fell on the tracks. The incident created a litany of other problems for thousands of other commuters. Of course, it didn't help matters that this happened at the beginning of the evening rush hour.
"They had difficulty getting organized for it," said commuter Carl Rahmaan.
At the Metro station in downtown Silver Spring, the steamy, hot night has been filled with frustration and confusion.
Commuter Angel Hampton said, "My frustration is they should have trains right up to the Spring metro."
Streets surrounding the station were jammed with extra metro buses and sidewalks are filled with weary, exhausted commuters forced to find a new way home Thursday night.
"Well I was supposed to go to Glenmont... Now I have to take a bus to get home," said Debra Halmon.
She's not alone. The chaotic scene of hundreds of commuters being detoured Thursday night appeared to even confuse Metro bus drivers.
To make matters worse, a quick bout of torrential rain didn't make things any easier. Dozens of buses were put into service even though the signs said otherwise. After jumping on the wrong shuttle, a drenched Carl Rahmaan was spent.
He told us, "They said the shuttle bus is up here... He doesn't know where it is."
