Train Malfunctions Plague Metro

Passengers crowd the platform at the Rosslyn Metro Station during Thursday's evening rush-hour delays.
It's been a tough couple of days for Metro commuters, with problems on the Red, Orange and Blue lines.
Thursday, there was a major problem on the orange and blue lines during the evening rush hour. Then Friday morning, a series of train malfunctions caused long delays on the red line.
Metro says Thursday night's problem was caused when the brakes of a blue-line train locked in the tunnel between Foggy Bottom and Rosslyn. It took 47 minutes to move the train to Rosslyn. Once it got there, other trains had to share one track while repairs were made. To make matters worse, a problem developed with one of the switches.
Then Friday morning, three trains had mechanical problems at different times during rush hour on the red line.
Metro General Manager John Catoe apologized for Friday's problems during an online chat Friday afternoon.
