The widow of a northern Virginia attorney who was slain a year ago in D.C. made a public plea Monday for the killer to come forward. Kathy Wone's husband Robert was staying with friends in a Dupont Circle townhome August 2, 2006 when he was fatally stabbed.

The Washington Post reported Sunday that investigators say they did not get full cooperation from the three residents who were home at the time. The residents told police that an intruder broke into the home and killed Wone.

ABC 7 News myTAKE - What's Your Opinion? At a news conference, Wone spoke directly to the Killer:

"I realize that I also grieve deeply for the loss of your own life. Having a murder on your conscience is no small load to carry."

Wone was stabbed with a butcher knife taken from the kitchen. Police say there was no sign of forced entry and there was evidence the crime scene had been altered before investigators arrived.

An attorney says the three residents submitted to 20 hours of taped police interviews and gave DNA, fingerprint, and hair samples.

"There's no one who wants the police to be able to find the evidence and arrest the intruder who came in and killed Robert Wone more than the three men who lived inside the home," said Attorney David Schertler.

Attorneys for the three residents released a joint statement last week, published in the same Washington Post article, saying the men are "puzzled and concerned regarding the false accusation that they have somehow withheld information from the police."

The three residents have never been charged, arrested or described as suspects in the killing.

The FBI is not commenting on reports that much of the evidence in the case, including DNA evidence, is held up at the FBI lab in Quantico, Virginia.
