Arlington Police Investigate 'Suspicious Death'
posted 6:01 am Thu August 09, 2007 - Arlington, Va.
Arlington County police are investigating what detectives call a suspicious death early Saturday along I-395.
According to investigators, 21-year-old Simran Singh became violent while riding in a car with four people from D.C. to Arlington on I-395 about 1:20 a.m. Saturday. Singh's friends restrained him and then noticed he was not responsive.
The driver pulled over and 911 was called.
The driver performed CPR until EMTs arrived.
Singh was taken to Inova Alexandria Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 2:09 a.m. Saturday morning.
Detectives aren't sure exactly how Singh died. But they're calling it suspicious.
Dozens of people, including many from the Sikh community, came to the Fairfax County native's funeral Wednesday.
Singh was a student at George Mason University.
Singh's family say they were very upset that they weren't allowed to see their son's body at the hospital.
But a detective says that the medical examiner's office needs to take custody of the body when there is a violent or unexpected death.
Arlington County detectives are awaiting the medical examiner's report.
