Father Who Lost Son In Hit-and-Run Accident Returns Home

A father who lost his son in a hit & run accident finally returns home from the hospital nearly three months later.

Ricky Atkinson Sr. was crossing Annapolis Road at Woodlawn Drive with his 10-year-old son, Ricky Jr. at night on May 31th when he says some youngersts went flying down the road going around 90 miles per hour. That's when Prince George's County Police say a stolen silver car struck Atkinson first, then hit his son.

ABC 7 News myTAKE - What's Your Opinion?Atkinson remembers trying to get to his son but being unable to move. Ricky Jr. died two days before his 11th birthday.

Witnesses say the force of the collision threw the boy 20 feet.

Investigators say after the crash, the driver and a passenger ditched the stolen car just three blocks away without anyone seeing them.

Atkinson was taken to a hospital with an injured leg, a paralyzed right arm and some shattered bones.

Officers say they are still looking for witnesses who can help them find the two suspects. Meanwhile, the Atkinson family will host a welcome home party Saturday at Friendship Arms in Hyattsville.
