Sheriff's Deputies Protest New Moonlighting Policies

Frederick County sheriff's deputies are going to court to fight changes to their moonlighting policy.
The changes made by Sheriff Chuck Jenkins took effect last month.
Deputies say the revised policy discriminates between deputies who work extra jobs contracted through the sheriff's office and those who handle security for private entities.
The deputies accepting private work are barred from wearing their uniforms or using their patrol cars.
And in the view of their attorney, the policy diminishes their credibility and puts them at risk if they have to handle an emergency while out of uniform.
Their lawsuit was filed Friday in Circuit Court.
Jenkins declined comment to the Frederick News-Post, citing the ongoing legal case.
