Tales from Continental Flight 1669

It has been a summer of flight delays, and passengers on Continental Flight 1669 from Caracas to Newark have a story to prove it.
The 124 passengers arrived at their destination nine hours late on July 19, 2007. Their flight was diverted to Thurgood Marshall-Baltimore Washington International Airport because of weather.
The plane landed at BWI at 1:50 p.m. Passengers say they spent nearly five hours on the tarmac with no explanation.
The passengers protested - banging on the overhead compartments; clapping their hands; even signing this petition, asking to be let off.
"We were not provided with food," said passenger Caroline Murray. "There were passengers who were ill. There was one woman who was diabetic. There was a pregnant woman with small children... it was shocking to me."
Passengers say homeland security officers boarded the plane about 5:30 p.m. and off loaded passengers into a room where they were held for two more hours. Passengers say they were then loaded back onto the plane for another hour wait before the plane took off.
Continental Airlines says because it was an international flight, federal law prohibited the flight crew from allowing passengers off the plane. Continental also says the flight crew provided assistance to passengers with special needs.
