Official: BRAC Will Bring 200 Jobs a Week to Arundel
posted 3:15 pm Wed August 15, 2007 - ANNAPOLIS, Md.
A special assistant to Anne Arundel County officials says the BRAC process will bring 200 jobs a week at its peak.
Bob Leib told County Council members that the migration of high-tech jobs to Fort Meade would begin in December 2010. That's when he says the Defense Information Systems Agency will start relocating about 4,300 employees from Arlington, Va.
Leib said many of those employees will likely live in western Anne Arundel County. But he says some could even live in Deale, since many will want to live within 45 minutes of their job.
Maryland Department of Planning officials say 400 to 700 officials will live near the MARC commuter train line. And 700 new homes are expected between Crofton and Piney Orchard. Four hundred new homes are expected in Annapolis, Glen Burnie and Brooklyn Park, with another 200 likely in the south county region.
The transfer of employees is supposed to end in September 2011.
