Prince George's Schools Hope for Immunization Compliance
posted 6:14 am Mon August 20, 2007 - Upper Marlboro, MD.
Prince George's County is hoping to avoid a repeat of last winter's immunization debacle that left hundreds of students unable to attend school.
Classes in the district start Monday.
Health officials have run about 45 immunization clinics since June.
But they won't know until students arrive Monday how many have met the vaccination requirements.
Maryland requires students in grades six through 10 to receive shots for chickenpox and hepatitis B.
Those without proper vaccinations will have 20 days to comply.
District spokesman John White says there were about 1,000 kids out of compliance at the end of last year.
