This is similar to when the police beat up a girl at Reagan National Airport in DC. They assaulted this girl and gave her a serious brain injury and made her entire body black and blue. Then they arrested HER and charged her with a made up crime to cover up the police brutality. The airport police are supposed to be there to protect us from terrorists, not beat up and harass young women, mothers and Congressmen. I seriously doubt Congressman Filner, who devoted his entire life to public service and was on his way to visiting our troops in Iraq, assaulted anyone! Fly through Washington DC at your own risk.

Ask anyone who knows this guy, he is a total hothead and can explode at any time.

We live in a fustrating time with demands hitting us from all sides. The more you expect and count on things to go like clock-work, the more disappointed you will become. I am sure Representative Bob Filner just wanted to get his bags and be on his way to his next appointment. It is fitting our officials are experiencing first hand what the every-day-person needs to endure. Now were those bags supposed to go to Dulles, Dallas or Detroit at the previous connection?

Isnt it about time we started DRUG TESTING in congress???? and your right, drommm, had this jerk been a repub, it would have been plastered across the wide screen until election time...

I have not seen a report of this where the fact that Filner is a Democrat has not been mentioned, but it is definitely not the front page story it would be if it were a Republican House chairman of a committee. In the end it doesn't matter because both sides act like they are above the law.

They live in their own secret society and pass laws that apply to us but somehow they are exempt. Social Security is a sacred cow that cannot be touched, yet they have their "own" program. When health care reform happens you can also bet that it won't touch their current system either. We need to throw them out because they are who they are, not pass a law that give us no choice in the matter.

Hey, I was standing right there when it happened. The guy was WAY out of line. He was very upset and agitated. I felt terrible for the ladies who were trying to do their job. Was it "assault" as in, an attempt to injure - NO... but he was out of line.

Arubaflower, I agree with you; I don't know what his party has to do with this, and anyhow, whatever party this guy belongs to, what he did was wrong.

Regarding FG's comment, WJLA reported all the pertinent facts to this story. By not publicizing Filner's party affiliation WJLA is being impartial because the fact that Filner is a Democrat has nothing to do with his assault charges. Every action a politician makes is not a political action unless that action pertains, influences, or affects the office/position itself or duties stemming from the office/position. I no more need to know if he is a Democrat or Republican than I need to know his blood type or ethnic heritage. Filner himself assaulted the man; the Democratic Party did not. Sheesh, isn't it about time we put aside such divisive distinctions? Personally, I have had enough of it. Thank you WJLA for being objective and reporting the news as responsible journalists should.

Gota wait in line like everyone else.

I can't say I'm surprised that you didn't identify Filner as a democrat in your broadcast tonight. I can say that I'm disappointed. I've been watching Maureen and Leon for a while and always thought they were objective about politics.

I guess I was wrong... had it been a republican congressman, would they have identified him as such?
