UMCP has partied even more since Len Bias its just the white kids now.

This school has a excellent Sports program. They have many winning teams, what do they expect. After a win we all go back and study...

As a former UMCP student, I can say they have been gradually phasing out the party element since the Len Bias incident in the 80's. They also had a kid drink himself to death in a fraternity a few years ago. Now they crack down on all of the on-campus parties. Add in a housing crunch that's forcing juniors and seniors to live off-campus and you get a lot of parties in the surrounding area. Crime is up from the increased number of students (often drunk) walking along the dark neighborhood streets at night. Academically, it is a great school but not many kids at that age are going to stay in their room & study all the time. Concerned parents shouldn't be afraid to send their kids to UMCP, but it's not worth paying through the teeth to go there.

mythoughts, I don't have the information you want, but I understand your concern. And with the cost of tuition nowadays, I'd want my kids to go to school to LEARN, not spend their time partying.

yes but, what number is it regarding academics and safety. dont know if i would send my child to WV or univ. of MD. I think UMD does pretty well academically and is convenient for md residents but i dont like the party and safety issues. if anyone knows anything about the school please share.
