New Catholic High School to Open in Takoma Park
posted 6:35 am Thu August 23, 2007 - Takoma Park, MD.
A new school run by the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Washington is opening next week.
Students at the Don Bosco Cristo Rey High School in Takoma Park will pay part of their tuition through a work-study program.
The school is a partnership between the archdiocese and the nonprofit Cristo Rey Network.
The network was founded in 2001 to help low-income families receive a Catholic education.
The school is the 19th in the network, which now serves 4,400 students.
Another is opening in Baltimore.
The program puts students in the classroom four days a week and at a local business for one day in a job share arrangement.
Businesses pay a nonprofit internship corporation for the students' work, with the money covering most tuition costs.
The Takoma Park school will open Monday with a freshman class of 127.
