Capitol Heights Boxer Wins Olympic Bid

D.C.-area boxer Gary Russell Junior will fight in the Olympics after winning his qualifying bout in Houston. Russell outpointed Roberto Marroquin of Dallas 18-14 to win the U.S. Olympic trials in the 119-pound division.

The Capitol Heights native had fought his way through the loser's bracket, meaning he had to beat Marroquin twice to win the title.
