Thank you Susan Marie for having some sensitivity. So Latinos are so bad, well you know it is funny, but a substantial part of the clean up for Katrina and for 9-11 was done by Latinos and I did not see many of those who criticizes them jumping to take the job.

SADITHA, I try to be polite, but people like you discuss me, so you feel so superior because you made a long line at the embassy, well most of those you critizy paid large sums, risk their lives and went hungry and cold. And you really think they will prefer to do that than wait in long lines. You who come from a country where more than half of the population live in cruel poverty should understand better since the only reason half of your country is not here is because IT IS ALMOST IMPOSIBLE TO COME ILEGAL FROM INDIA. So with all my respect shut up.

For the love of common sense. Seriously, what part of the word ILLEGAL confuses you people?? Herndon Town Council - if memory serves, the people spoke before and they will speak again.. enjoy your job while you can.

Saditha- Brilliant idea. Let the bleeding hearts pay. NancyO- Exactly my thoughts as well. drwho- See it's like this - if these "day laborers" were here legally, they would go to the unemployment office, but since most of them littering up our streets & parking lots are not - it's pretty easy to figure out. Any of you ever seen a 7-11 parking lot clear out when the police roll up? Like roaches when the lights come on.

I request a voluntary system whereby tax dollars from us Virginia taxpayers can go to such labor centers that employ illegal aliens, by also allowing an opt out mechanism--because of the sheer controversy of this system. In other words, those, such as legal immigrant Saditha Gupta, (who do not want to pay to support services for those US federal lawbreakers who cut in the line in front of me and my fellow immigrants) would be exempt if we chose, of course the same for any US citizen, naturalized or native born for that matter. Those with compassion and respect for divvvvvvvvvvvversity such as the esteemed Katiebear and SusanMarie2, will be required to fund it, not us. With each citizen who agrees to opt out, the amount covered by those who wish to support, such as Katiebear and drwho, would increase incrementally. That would be fair to us legal immigrants who wonder why we should support those who did not and do not love and respect American laws, such as myself, all the members of my family, and those fellow members of my US citizen INS naturalization class of 1996. We respect US law and the United States. There are many other foreigners here, though, that did not do as we did, such as going to a US embassy--in my case in New Delhi, India--and going through the long paperwork and fees, medical checks and police/background checks, but rather just strolled in to my adopted country and think they own the place. I think this would be most equitable. It will also be fair to us, the LEGAL US immigrants, not the illegals. This is not an issue of all immigrants, much as they would have you think but is an issue of those who upheld the law and those who broke the law. Nobody on this forum can debate with me otherwise. Dyanevaadh (thank you) and good night.... Saditha

Herndon Town needs to get ICE on the site. So that NO ILLEGAL IMMIRGRANTS, get access to this site that is using tax payers money.

SusanMarie2, I agree wholeheartedly with your post. It's nice to read something that comes from a place of compassion, instead of the usual vitriol.

Checking the legal status is a good thing but why is it the responsibilty of a City or County to provide a staffed meeting place for 'day laborers'. Day laborers who are underpaid and abused for a days work and the local government becomes part of the process where these laborers cannot possibly earn a living wage to live in Fairfax County or Herndon, unless of course they live 10 and more to a house or apartment.

Did all the Virginia State Employment Offices close?

I live in Herndon Worldgate, went to Herndon High and have lived in Northern Virginia for over 30 years. I see a lot of Latino immigrants all over when I go down to the Giant and walking about town and not only do I not have any idea who is "legal" and who is not but I really don't care or think it is any of my business. I do not judge anyone by the color of their skin or where they come from. I believe all cultures have something wonderful to offer and people in need, especially those that work hard should be given the same health care and other services, no matter their status, color or religion, as anyone else. No one should be denied a service that could keep them from dying or being in pain. I know what brought so many immigrants, legal and illegal, to this country and that is US policy of allowing them and encouraging it for the sake of the farming, hotel, restaurant and construction industries which everyone has benefited from. Their willingness to work for lower wages allows others to have increased salaries. I don't think they should be treated any differently than any other poor white family who is from this country and they should the same opportunities to come out of their situation. I believe in human rights for everyone. I work hard but I don't think of my taxes as going to pay for this as I know only a small percentage of the taxes paid in this country go towards Latino immigrant health care. I think they contribute to the economy at least as much as they take.

Shut it down. They need to not be here. GO home! Quit enabling the situation - STOP IT. Quit! Herndon, Don't you get it? - Don't encourage the beast!
