FLO Corp. is partnering with the Washington Redskins (web|news) to offer a card that promises to get users breezing through stadium and airport security lines.
"If you want to be able to get to the front of the line more faster and you have more money, than I feel like that's fair," said Landover resident Kenneth Carter.
The Chantilly, Va.-based company announced it signed a three-year deal with the football team. For $100 a year, customers can register for the new card that will let them enter fast lanes at FedEx Field and airports in the federal registered traveler program.
FLO officials say they already have 5,000 cardholders, who use the cards at 19 airports, including Reagan National and Dulles International. Those who apply must go through a background check.
Like travelers, fans who sign up for the cards must also give the company fingerprint and iris scans, along with personal information. "Get in line and go see the game! I think it's crazy to go pay $100 to bypass that. If I was talking about going to the airport, that's a different issue," said Ashburn resident Frank Labaty.
The company says there will be separate lines at the stadium for those who have the card, cutting their wait time in getting through security.
One Cowboys fan said he would pay the $100 just for the one game he attends each season. "I hate standing in line, period. So I'll pay whatever it takes to get away from the line," said Arlington resident Victor Amakew.
Some people call the fee far too extravagant. "No! Hell no! Not in this economy. I could get food," one person said. Northwest resident Sarah Brennan said, "I feel like you're already paying enough for the ticket and the lines move pretty quickly and are pretty painless. When I go to a sporting event, it's something I anticipate."
FLO said the fast lane gates should be open by the last pre-season home game on August 28. The company said the Redskins' will receive about $10 compensation of the $100 total cost of the yearly card.
