(Sports Network) - The defending Olympic and world champion Russian pair of Anastasia Ermakova and Anastasia Davydova had another solid performance Tuesday in synchronized swimming by finishing first in the duet preliminary round of the duet fee routine. The Russian duo incorporated several powerful lifts in their routine and swam disciplined as a unit, scoring a 49.5 ahead of Wednesday's final of the free routine.

That gave the pair 98.834 points, which was .916 ahead of the Spanish tandem of Andrea Fuentes and Gemma Mengual. Japan's Saho Harada and Emiko Suzuki were third at 96.750.

ABC 7 News myTAKE - What's Your Opinion? Christina Jones and Andrea Nott were fifth, 3.334 points behind the Russians.

"There's nothing like a first impression," said Jones. "We really wanted to come out and surprise everyone. We have upped our difficulty and increased our speed to show that we're a great duet."
