Fairfax County (web|news) officials say some 60 firefighters responded to a three-alarm blaze at a high-rise condominium building.

According to Lieutenant Raul Castillo, spokesman for the fire department, the blaze was reported about 4:40 p.m. Monday in the 3700 block of South George Mason Drive. He says the fire began on a balcony on the 23rd floor of the 26-story high-rise. Smoke spread quickly throughout the building.

The fire was brought under control within 30 minutes. There were no injuries.

Castillo says the cause of the fire was improperly discarded smoking materials. Smoke and water damage was estimated at $10,000.
