Redskin's megafan, Chief Zee, has his beloved tomahawk back in time for tonight's game against the Jacksonville Jaguars thanks to Chris Cooley of the Washington Redskins (web|news) .
The swift return of Chief Zee's prized possession is being credited to Cooley, who prior to playing in tonight's pre-season home game had something special for the Chief; the trademark tomahawk thought to be gone forever is now back in the hands of the rightful owner.
Cooley had watched reports Wednesday that someone had recently swiped Chief Zee's prop of 25 years while he was signing autographs at a previous game, so the player offered up a free autographed jersey to the person who returned the prop.
And what do you know; last night a 19-year-old male reportedly contacted Cooley's brother and swapped the prop for a signed jersey.
'Chief Zee', the man known for lifting up Redskins fans is also known as 67-year-old Zema Williams. Williams sells cars in New Carrollton most of the time, but when he puts on his signature tomahawk and trademark costume, Williams is the Washington Redskins most famous fan.
In fact, for over 25 years 'Chief Zee' has carried the same beloved tomahawk to every game. He never put it down, but on the Aug. 9th preseason game against the Buffalo Bills he sat it down briefly to sign autographs and a moment later it was gone.
Yes, it's true. Someone swiped the Chief's tomahawk. And he says, a '"Redskins fan wouldn't do that."
"I don't know where I got it from, but it's been in my life for 25 years," Williams said. "I feel bad about someone taking it from me."
Williams said the tomahawk has earned extra sentimental value because of something he added last year in memory of slain Redskins star Sean Taylor. "The tomahawk had the number 21 on all sides of it," he said.
